SMF (Single-Mode Fiber) is an optical fiber designed to carry light only directly down the fiber. It is used mainly for long-distance communication links and has a much greater capacity than multimode fiber. SMF is made from a pure silica glass core and cladding, which is much thinner than multimode fiber. This allows the light to travel further with less signal loss. SMF is also more resistant to electromagnetic interference, making it ideal for use in high-speed networks.
