OM3 is a type of multi-mode fiber optic cable designed for use in high-speed data networks. It is capable of transmitting data up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) over distances of up to 300 meters. OM3 is an improved version of the original OM2 cable, which was limited to a maximum speed of 1 Gbps. OM3 is also known as laser-optimized multimode fiber (LOMMF) and is the most commonly used type of fiber optic cable for 10 Gbps networks. It is also backward compatible with OM2 and OM1 cables, allowing for easy upgrades. OM3 cables are typically made of a glass core surrounded by a cladding layer and a protective jacket. They are available in a variety of colors and sizes, making them suitable for a wide range of applications.
